I’m starting to believe that it is possible for a child to be too smart for their own good. Ruby, at 2.5, has already started to figure out how to lie her way out of things. We discovered her new fibbing ability on Monday night. After a long day without a nap, we braved the cold to meet Matt’s family for dinner for his Grandma Shirley’s birthday. Restaurant dining is already a...
Ruby’s last Christmas as an only child was a great one! She, of course, got way too many presents that we are going to have to somehow find room for. Next year we are setting a limit on how many gifts each person can get our kids, it’s a bit out of control. Here are a few highlights from our holiday weekend:
Granny singing along with the Sing-A-Ma-Jig. Seriously, if you...
I gave notice at my job on Wednesday. I never thought that would be such a hard thing to do. I have been here over 2 years and have become really good friends with my boss and my office mate. My boss is actually a family friend of my husband’s so she knows all of his family which made it even harder to break the news to her. I won’t lie, I did shed a few tears but I’m going to...
We had our first prenatal appointment yesterday! There must be something special about October because Ruby’s due date was July 25th and my current due date is July 22nd. Wow! They did not do a sonogram but they think I am about 8 weeks along which means little Ralph is the size of a raspberry and has little webbed fingers. This one’s a boy, I just know it. January 11th is our next...
Now I am not one of those TV-nazi parents that limits TV to once a week, and I will admit I probably allow my daughter to watch more television then she should. Usually it’s during those times when I really need a few minutes to fold laundry or load the dishwasher, or just need some quiet. And for the most part she only watches DVR’d episodes of Wonder Pets and Dora the Explorer.

Although it is supposed to be a secret, we have told (obviously) a few people that we are expecting again. Ruby included. Which could possibly be a bad thing because there is a good chance she will rat us out. That kid has a memory like an elephant. We were all lying in bed the other night, Ruby in between Matt and I, watching Life (in HD which is AWESOME! and narrated by Oprah!) when Rubes looked...

Can I tell you a secret? In case you can’t tell, that’s a positive.
When I got Ruby up this morning I told her “Today is mommy’s birthday!” She grunted and told me “Close the door!”…then thought about it for a few seconds “NO! It’s MY burfday!! Happy burfday to ME!” So today we are celebrating both of our birthdays. I am 24 and she is 2 & 1/3.
As much as I despise the messy house, stressful mornings and 5 minute tantrums in the grocery store, it’s the tiny everyday moments that make me so very grateful to be given the opportunity to be a mom. Saying “Good morning, Sunshine!” every morning when I get her out of bed and getting a mumbly “mornin mommieee” in response while she stretches and rubs her eyes....
